Mary Esther Huger was born in 1820, the daughter of Colonel Francis Kinloch Huger and Harriott Lucas ("Lucy") Pinckney Huger, (the daughter of General Thomas Pinckney and Elizabeth Motte Pinckney and sister to Thomas Pinckney, Jr., and Charles Cotesworth Pinckney, owner of Woodburn).
